Chilli Mushrooms

A yummy combination of crispy fried mushrooms with a generous coat of Chinese sauces. Checkout this recipe to make perfect chilli mushrooms at home.

  • 150 gm Mushroom
  • 3 Tbsp Water
  • 1 Small Capsicum
  • 2 Tbsp Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger
  • 1 Medium Onion – Sliced
  • 2 Tbsp Chilli Sauce/ ½ Tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • ¼ Cup Spring Onion
  • Small Green Chilli
  • ¼ Tsp Crushed Black Pepper
  • 3 Tbsp Cornflour + 4 Tbsp Water
  • ½ Cup Water
  • 2 Tbsp Maida
  • 1 Tbsp Cornflour
  • 5 Tbsp Oil
  • Salt to taste
To Fry Mushrooms:
  1. Take 150 gm of button mushrooms cut in half in a medium sized bowl.
  2. Pour 3 Tsp water to the mushrooms evenly and give it a good mix.
  3. Add 2 Tbsp plain flour (maida) and 1 Tbsp cornflour to the mushrooms and mix this well. All the mushroom pieces should get even coating from all the sides. The water added in previous step will help stick this flour mix to the mushrooms.
  4. Add some salt to taste and mix it well.
  5. Take 3 Tbsp oil in a shallow pan to fry the mushrooms.
  6. Add mushroom pieces one by one to hot oil and shallow fry these on medium to high flame till they become golden brown from all the sides. Flip the mushroom pieces while frying to get even cooking from all the sides. Keep them aside once they are done.
To Make the Sauce:
  1. Take 2 Tbsp oil in a pan.
  2. Add 1 medium size sliced onion once the oil heats up. Sauté this for a min.
  3. Add 2 Tbsp of chopped garlic, 1 Tbsp of chopped ginger, 1 small chopped green chilli and 1 small diced capsicum. Stir fry these on high flame for a min.
  4. Add 1/4 cup chopped spring onion, 1/4 Tsp crushed black pepper, 2 Tbsp chilli sauce or 1 1/2 Tsp red chilli powder, 1 Tbsp soya sauce and 1/4 cup water. Give it a good mix and bring it to a boil.
  5. Add salt to taste and slurry of 2 Tbsp corn flour + 3 Tbsp water to the sauce. Mix this well and cook for another minute by adding 1/4 cup water.
  6. Once the sauce thickens and becomes little translucent, add the fried mushrooms to the sauce. Stir them fir another minute and ensure to coat the mushroom pieces evenly with the sauce.
  7. Chilli mushrooms are now done and ready. These can be eaten without any complementary dish or can be served with stir fries noodles or rice. Enjoy!
